Sugar and Spiced Plum

The Santa Claus Parade is fast approaching this weekend. In our house, the Parade always marks the the weekend that the Christmas tree goes up. Decorating the tree has always been an exciting time. I have such vivid memories from when I was a kid of my dad lugging the big fake tree upstairs from the basement, followed by boxes and boxes of ornaments. The Christmas music would be on, and my mom would be making me and my sisters hot chocolate (or cookies, or some kick-ass italian meal). Our decorating would commence at full-tilt, and we only stopped when we were ready to light the bad-boy up. Spiced Plum.

This year, we’ve retired a majority of our old ornaments. The collection of “Baby’s First Christmas”, and homemade ornaments have a place in our hearts, but not on the tree. We’ve gone for a more refined look, inspired by Canadian Tire’s new Canvas line of ornaments in the “Spiced Plum” collection.

My Favourite Ornaments

Let’s start with the garland. Because how cool is this? It looks like a bunch of ornaments strung together. That, my friends, is efficiency.

I love the detail of the two love birds. Isn’t it sweet? I nearly missed this one.

This one reminds me of a science project. With cells, or atoms, or something inside.

I also was never good at science, so I could be totally off. Its neat though.

I love this one! It’s slightly edgy compared to the others, which creates a great contrast. It’s like the studs that belong on a leather jacket.

Last but not least, I love the stripey-flower-braid. I know it’s not called that, but thats what it is. Right??

I think all these ornaments are beautiful. The gold and plum are rich, and will stand out against the dark green tree.

When buying the ornaments, it was a toss-up between the gold and blush, or this. I’m happy we went with this. Its going to be stunning!

Stay tuned – I can’t wait to share with you what the tree will look like!
