Christmas in NYC

christmas in nyc

To me, Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year. New York City is the most wonderful city, and my mother is the most wonderful travel buddy.

Last year, I suggested to my mother that we visit NYC around Christmas – different from our usual summer visits. It was a total game-changer. It truly makes the world around you feel Christmassy. We decided that this was going to be an annual Girls Trip, and so this year we kept the tradition going.

We tend to balance planning and structure, with exploring and walking aimlessly. It works best for us, and you can truly experience the beauty of New York. There are so many hidden gems (like the jewelry craft stores on 6th ave!) and not-so-hidden gems, that are equally amazing. I have so much more I want to see and do, but here is my most recent (but by no means extensive) To-Do List:

NYC Christmas To-Do List:

Hit the windows:
  • Macy’s Christmas Window
  • Lord & Taylor Christmas Window
  • Saks Christmas Window
  • Bergdorf Goodman Christmas Window
  • Barneys Christmas Window
  • Bloomingdales Christmas Window
Eat your face off:
  • Treat yourself to the banana pudding from Magnolia Bakery in Bloomies
  • Take a cooking class at ICE
  • Have drinks/coffee in Eataly
  • Have an almond croissant from Bouchon Bakery
  • Indulge in a Sprinkles Cupcake
  • Eat your way through Chelsea Market
  • Walk across Times Square and people-watch
  • Fill your belly at The Plaza Food Hall
Shop the Markets
  • Bryant Park Holiday Market
  • Union Square Market (my favourite)
  • Grand Central Holiday Market
Shop and Explore:
  • Visit Brookfield Place
  • See Drunk Shakespeare
  • Visit M&J Trimming (if you’re into fun trims, beads, and patches)
  • Shop the giant Zara on 5th avenue
  • Take pictures with the tree at Rockefeller Plaza
  • Take-in Soho, and enjoy one of it’s great restaurants
  • Take a stroll through Central Park
  • Keep an eye out for sample sales, and be ready to shop!

This really is my short-list, and doesn’t factor in all the time we spent exploring different nooks, grabbing coffee, eating brunch or testing lipstick samples on our hands at Sephora. Go to NYC with an open-mind, ready to experience whatever you stumble across, and I promise you that there is something for everyone.
